Hydraulics have been used in various forms for at least the last 4000 years, from the irrigation and water clocks of Egypt and China to the early forms of hydraulic mining used by the Romans.
The first ideas for a hydraulic pump came from the English inventor, John Whitehurst around 1775, then in 1796 the French inventor Joseph Montgolfier built an automatic version. But it is the Englishman, Joseph Bramah, who is recognised as the founder of hydraulics technology, when in 1795 he patented the hydraulic press. Throughout the Industrial Revolution, engineers and industrialists worldwide developed and advanced hydraulics including in 1905, the first use of oil as the transfer medium for a hydrostatic transmission driven by axial pistons which marked the beginning of oil hydraulics.
Today there are many different forms of hydraulic power in use and under constant development. Examples of hydraulics are everywhere, ranging from supersonic aircraft and theme park rides to dishwashers and power steering! So it’s not surprising that the technical skills of hydraulic repair companies are in huge demand.
At Alatas Engineering, whilst we can’t claim to have invented the hydraulic pump or the hydraulic motor, we do have highly skilled hydraulic engineers, many of whom have in excess of 25 years of hydraulics experience. Working in a specially designed hydraulics workshop, with state of the art testing facilities, we offer a free collection, investigation and quotation service with a detailed fault diagnosis. We know that production stops when units break down and have on-site manufacturing and machining facilities and excellent relationships and discounts with all the top suppliers of hydraulic components in order to minimise our customer’s downtime and costs. With a comprehensive warranty, full test and report, final inspection and speedy return of your repaired unit we hope to give you complete peace of mind and begin a new and long-lasting partnership.
We also repair, refurbish and re-manufacture hydraulic cylinders for marine, industrial and mobile applications.
We are ISO 9001:2008 registered and also have a full precision engineering workshop which encompasses traditional toolroom & CNC machine facilities.
